 WATER : The Most Important "FOOD".

Editor: Dr Ignatius Onah..

Water is the most important pillar on which to build a healthy fact, the most important “food” at all times.

Why is Water so important?

A Nigerian Nutrition expert, Emperor Akah, gives this lowdown on the crucial importance of water: "

a) Your body is about 70% water;

b Your brain cells are about 85% water;

c) Your blood is about 82% water;

d) Your muscles are abouth hgtb 75% water;..

e) Even your bones are approximately, 25% water.

f) Food digestion, absorption, and assimilation cannot take place successfully without adequate water in our bodies.

  g) .... Many people suffer from headache, arthritis, back pains, skin problems, digestion problems......

In most cases, these ailments are 'Warning lights' telling them that they are dehydrated, and that they need adequate water intake.

  On Functions of water, he continued,"....

Water is the first and the most important pillar upon which to build a healthy life.

  I) Water is the main lubricant in joint spaces, and helps prevent arthritis and back pains.

,ii) Water increases the efficiency of the immune system.

iii) Water prevents clogging of ateries in the heart and brain, and this helps reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

iv) Water is directly connected to brain functions as it is needed in the manufacturing of neurotransmiters, including Serotonin...and hormones like Melatonin;

v) Water helps prevent memory loss as we age.

vi) Water affects our appearance, making our skin smoother, and giving it a glow again, reducing the effect of aging.

   On how dehydration actually damages the body, Emperor Akah avails us of his in depth knowledge again,

 ",When you live in a drought condition, your body smartly manages the water you give it by using that limited fund to keep the vital organs such as Brain, Heart, Lungs, Liver and Kidney well watered. ...

As a result, non-vital organs like the Skin, Joints and even the Gastrointestinal tract are usually the first organs to advertise the consequences of dehydration"

  On Water frequency, he continues,, " Most people don't drink water until they are thirsty, or until they have a dry mouth. Prior to that time you are most likely already dehydrated. A dry mouth is actually one of the LAST signs of dehydration"

Not with Meals! "It is s mistake to drink water during meals. When you drink too much Water with a meal it WASHES out the Hydrochloric acid, Digestive juices,and Enzymes in your stomach and intestines. This delays digestion"

 On avoiding COLD drinks, he also asserts, "Cold water and iced drinks quench the digestive process just like pouring water on fire!

WATER DOSAGE: 8--10 Big Cups daily.At least rwo big cups before breakfast; two cups before lunch, and, again, before Supper .And, yet, another large volume before bed.

   TIMING: "It is s mistake to drink water during meals. When you drink too much Water with a meal, it WASHES out the Hydrochloric acid, Digestive juices,and Enzymes in your stomach and intestines. The. Body produces these enzymes that digest the ingested food. Drinking water while eating leads to dilution of these enzymes making them to lose their concentration.This delays digestion" So,water must never be taken during meals!

 A good water-drinking protocol should be at least 30 minutes BEFORE food, and at least 2 to 3 Hours AFTER food.

HOT OR COLD? “Avoid iced or cold drinks as much as possible, especially over a meal, as ice contracts nerves and muscle.... In fact, the body has to warm up a cold drink before it can use it ., cold drinks quench the digestive process just like pouring water on fire!”

  Defensive Nutrition now emphasizes Hot Water Therapy for everyone, as follows,

    "Take 4 to 5 Litres of HOT WATER daily, as follows: 100--150cll before brushing teeth; another 50 --100cl before breakfast; 50--100cl before lunch; 50--100cl before supper.

Last dose= 50--100cl cl before bed.

(Note: 50cl = One Big Coke bottle)

 No water during meals at all -- must be at least 30 minutes BEFORE, and at least 90 minutes AFTER meals.

 Lizette Borrelli. Writing on "6 Ways Drinking Warm Water Can Heal Your Body" , she avails us of these nuggets, :

" Regularly drinking very warm water, especially in the morning, can heal our bodies, providing digestive power and reducing metabolic waste that could have built up in our immune system....

.While drinking warm water may not suit your taste buds, it may be beneficial to put the caffeine and tea aside for your health's sake.

Here are six reasons why:...

1. Cleanses Digestion

Ary warm cup of water in the morning can help cleanse your body by flushing out toxins. Water and other liquids help break down the food in your stomach and keep the digestive system on track. Warm water will help break down these foods even faster, making them easier for you to digest. Drinking cold water during or after a meal can actually harden the oil in consumed foods and therefore create a fat deposit in the intestines.

2. Aids Constipation

At one point or another, many of us are plagued by this common stomach problem where we have little to no bowel movement. The strain felt during elimination, accompanied by bloating, is brought on by a lack of water in the body. Drinking very warm water in the morning on an empty stomach can help improve bowel movements and aid constipation while breaking down foods as they smoothly pass through the intestines. Stimulating the bowels will help return your body back to normal functioning.

3.eviates Pain

Warm water, considered to be nature’s most powerful home remedy, can help alleviate pain from menstruation to headaches. The heat from warm water is known to have a calming and soothing effect on the abdominal muscles, which can help provide instant relief for cramps and muscle spasms. According to Healthline , warm or hot water is usually better for cramps, as hot liquids increase blood flow to the skin and help relax the cramped muscles.

4. Sheds Excess Pounds

If you’re on a diet, chances are you’ve heard drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning can help with weight loss. Warm water increases body temperature, which therefore increases the metabolic rate. An increase in metabolic rate allows the body to burn more calories throughout the rate. It can also help the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys to function even better.

. 5. Improves Blood Circulation

The fat deposits in the body are eliminated along with accumulating deposits in the nervous system when you drink a glass of warm water. This flushes out the toxins that are circulating throughout the body and then enhances blood circulation. Making sure the muscles are relaxed will eliminate poor circulation and blood flow.

6. Halts Premature Aging

Prature aging is a woman’s worst nightmare, but luckily, this can be prevented by drinking warm water. The presence of toxins in the body can lead to aging faster, but warm water can help cleanse the body from those toxins, while repairing skin cells to increase elasticity"

 Towing the same line with Ms Lizette Borrelli is Dr Stella Metsovas, a

clinical nutritionist and media health expert in Food and Nutrition Sciences.

'. Excerpts from her interview with Medical Daily:

 ". Drinking a glass of warm water and a lemon will help break down the adipose tissue, or body fat, in your body, and also control food craving due to lemon’s pectin fiber.

.....Adding ice to processed cold water will strip it of natural-containing minerals, as these minerals are essential to keeping the digestive tract healthy. Luckily, you can replace a glass of cold water with a warm one to aid digestion, especially after eating a meal.

.....Women will always benefit because they [have] more hormones to contend with, making constipation more of an issue.....To reap the health benefits of warm water, drink it every morning plain or with a lemon for taste".

 Warm, not Hot: Dr Metsovas urges drinkers to "have WARM water, as drinking STRAIGHT HOT water can potentially be damaging to tissue in the mouth and esophagus. After boiling water, be sure to let it cool for a few minutes before you start consuming"

  Another Nutrition expert, Elizabeth Overstreet, concurs with Dr Stella Metsovas above, as she gleefully itemizes these extra benefits of drinking Hot water, ......

a. Anti-aging for skin

When you drink water, we know that it is a natural way to remove toxins from your body which helps your skin to recuperate quicker. Dehydration is one of the most common reasons our skin loses elasticity. But, if you drink warm water, this helps your skin even more. Daily, your skin comes in contact with germs and free radicals. Drinking warmer water can help your skin’s cells repair quicker, in addition to improving your skin’s elasticity and appearance. I’m not sure about you, but I’m willing to drink some hot water over buying another anti-aging product. It’s less costly and effective!

b. Improves digestion

Mayo Clinic facilitated some research around the impact of drinking cold water after you eat a meal. They found that when a meal was consumed with cold water, the oils found in the food the participants digested hardened. This was relevant because this is one of the causes of intestinal cancer. But, when food was consumed with warmer water, this same reaction did not occur with the oils. The warm water was actually an aid in helping with the digestion and movement of the food through the system.

c. Relieves congestion

The worse part of a sore throat or nasal congestion is the pain associated with swallowing and the discomfort associated with feeling congested. Swallow something cold can make the process of staying hydrated difficult. However, for the most part when you drink something warm, it is more soothing. It’s not your imagination. Warmer water helps when your throat is sore or when you have coughing associated with your cold. Warmer water moves easier through your system and helps to alleviate some of the built up phlegm, helping you to recover from being sick a little bit quicker.

d. Body detoxification

Lots of time when you think of going through a detox you usually head to your local health food store to explore options and specific detox kits. But, drinking warm water is an alternative way to get that detox. According to the American Liver Foundation, your body temperature will rise and this will cause you to sweat, which is a sign that toxins are being eliminated from your body. All of this happens just with drinking warmer water.

e. Eases menstrual cramping

Being on my period is always tough because of the premenstrual symptoms that occur along with my menstrual cycle. But, what is even worse is the cramping I feel. I am always looking for natural remedies versus taking medication to soothe my cramps.

Here is how you can use something that has worked for me when I have my menstrual cycle. Instead of reaching for cold water, drink warmer water. It helps to loosen your abdominal muscles responsible for the cramping, decreasing your cramps and spasms.

f. Helps with constipation

If you are having some difficulty with being regular and are experiencing constipation, hot water can help with your digestion. Drinking warmer water helps with dehydration that causes your intestines to accumulate stools that back cause constipation. According to studies, which were done by the Digestive Disease Associates of York County, drinking warm water helps to make you regular. And here is another helpful hint. If you have not eaten yet and you drink warm water first before eating, it helps with getting rid of remnants of food that may be left in your system. This is another way to help you get your digestive process going in the right direction.

g. Stimulates hair growth

Dehydration and dry hair is often the culprit of breakage and an inability to get your hair to grow longer and healthier. By drinking warm water, you are helping your roots by giving them the hydration they need to be healthy. Warm water helps to activate your roots, decrease dehydration of your hair, which ends up helping your hair grow.

Now that you know the health benefits of drinking warm water, what’s stopping you? You have nothing to lose and so much to gain with regard to improving your health, alleviating pain, aiding your digestive system and helping to improve your skin. Drink up!..."
